National Youth Choir of Canada 2010
Nova Scotia Representatives
 NYC 2010 will be under the direction of Dr. Victoria Meredith who is Dean of Music at the University of Western Ontario, London.  The choir will be hosted by the province of Saskatchewan from May 8 to 23, and will perform at Podium 2010, in Saskatoon.  Congratulations to these four talented singers will have the opportunity take part in this amazing experience!

 Deirdre Kellerman - Soprano
Deirdre Kellerman is music student at Acadia University, studying vocal performance with Christianne Rushton. She has sung with various choral groups, including the Nova Scotia Youth Choir, and currently is a member of the Camerata Xara Young Women's Choir. In high school, Deirdre conducted Volare, a youth vocal ensemble and was the assistant vocal director for her school's production of Les Miserables. A pianist as well as a singer, Deirdre has been a piano teacher and accompanist and currently accompanies the Acadia Vocal Ensemble. 

 
Hannah Stewart – Alto

Hannah Stewart is a 3rd Vocal Performance Major at Acadia University, in her hometown of Wolfville, NS, where she studies with her voice teacher, Paula Rockwell. Hannah has been involved in music since a young age and began to pursue voice in middle school. Since then she has participated in community theatre, with lead roles in Les Miserables (Fantine), Children of Eden (Yonah), and Beauty and the Beast (Mrs. Potts). She has been awarded Most Outstanding Vocalist from the Annapolis Valley Music Festival, along with the awards for Most Outstanding Musical Theatre and Provincial Representative. This  year, Hannah will be appearing in Acadia’s Spring production of Little Women as Marmee. Hannah made her choral debut in the Nova Scotia Youth Choir this Fall under the direction of Iwan Edwards and had an amazing time. She is thrilled to be a part of the National Youth Choir and is very proud to be representing Nova Scotia.

 Cameron Johnson – Baritone
Cameron began his music career in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario with such musical theatre rolls as Gavroche in Les Miserable.  He was also cast in Chicago, Evita, Beauty and the Beast, The Best Little Whore House in Texas.  He has played Munkastrap in Cats, The Artful Dodger in Oliver, Pippin in Pippin and most recently, at Acadia University, Peter in Hanzel and Gretel.   Cameron is a 2nd year vocal performance student at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. He first studied voice with Agnes McCarthy, Adjunct Professor, Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie and currently is studying classical voice with Professor Christianne Rushton at Acadia.  Cameron was a member of the Algoma Conservatory Choir in Sault Ste. Marie for 4 years, the Ontario Youth Choir for two years and is currently a member of the Acadia University Chorus. Cameron is honoured to represent Nova Scotia in the National Youth Choir, 2010.


 
Tristan Cleveland-Thompson - Tenor
Tristan Cleveland-Thompson is excited to represent Nova Scotia in the National Youth Choir 2010. Originally from Halifax, Tristan returned to his home city from the western city of Edmonton, Alberta. Tristan has had many musical opportunities offered to him privately and through the Halifax School System, to which he accredits all of his training. In addition to piano, Tristan plays the violin, viola, piano, organ, and sings. Tristan has studied pipe organ at the University of Alberta, and is currently taking this year off from his formal education. He hopes to return to post-secondary training in music, focusing on vocal performance and choral conducting. Tristan sang for two seasons in the critically acclaimed Kokopelli Youth Choir of Edmonton, as well as being a member of the Canadian Chamber Choir. He also serves as the organist at Saint David's Presbyterian Church of Halifax, and sings with the Halifax Camerata Singers. Future plans include having a choir of his own to conduct, and to continue to be involved in music in as many ways as possible!
